Decentralized Marketplace Considers A Governance Route To Solana
Metal · 28 Oct 2026
The vote on shifting a decentralized cloud computing network from its own chain to Solana began Oct. 26, 2026, and remains open. The network operates as a marketplace for renting computing power and runs on akashnet-2, a sovereign chain built with Cosmos tools. Voting remains open until 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026.
Early Results and Next Steps
Tallies recorded on Oct. 27 showed roughly 98 percent in favor. Turnout already cleared the required quorum, though the final count can still shift before the deadline. A yes outcome would allow the AKT token to launch on Solana under the SPL token standard.
Conditions for Token Launch
The Solana version of the token would not go live until the vote passes and two independent audits are completed. The team plans to announce the launch date once those steps finish. Holders would then move AKT through a one-way portal at a 1:1 ratio. Tokens sent through the portal leave the original chain, keeping the total supply unchanged.
Migration Details for Holders
AKT would retain its ticker and six decimals after the move. Reversing a portal transfer is not possible once it is submitted. Self-custody holders would connect a Cosmos wallet and select a Solana address. No SOL is required to complete the transfer. Exchanges would handle customer balances according to their own timelines, while console wallets would update automatically.
Requirements for Other Chains
AKT located on other Cosmos-linked chains must first return to akashnet-2. The portal accepts the token only from the home chain. This vote does not relocate the marketplace itself. Live leases and governance on akashnet-2 continue unchanged for now.
Marketplace Transition Path
The marketplace relocation would require separate audits, rehearsals, and an additional cutover vote that would set the exact transition point. After that cutover, new deployments would route to Solana. The original chain would wind down and then halt. Providers would upgrade their software and register again on Solana. Tenants would keep their existing deployment files.
Validator and Infrastructure Changes
Validators would lose their roles once the chain halts. On Dec. 15, 2025, the team asked the public to propose a host chain. Solana and one Ethereum layer-2 option met every stated requirement.
Selection Rationale
The team chose Solana and outlined its reasoning on Oct. 26, 2026. The decision cited lower costs under load, absence of a single operator, and the presence of peer infrastructure networks already on the chain. On Solana the network would not operate its own chain. Solana validators would confirm its transactions.
Support and Precedents
The Solana Foundation extended an offer covering engineering work and audits. The team stated it does not depend on that assistance. Wallets and exchanges can add support for the Solana version of AKT once it is live, and that listing can occur before the marketplace itself moves. Other infrastructure networks have completed similar moves from their own chains to Solana. The team described the route as a tested path.
Governance Safeguards
Governance can still halt the marketplace cutover until shortly before it occurs. Token moves become permanent once the portal opens. Holders therefore decide whether a working network relinquishes its own chain. The outcome determines where its compute market ultimately resides.
